The French had lost the war. French laws were abolished and instead British laws became law. However, the Province of Quebec was created and the French were given their own military. All things weren't positive, since there were some major caveats to the now somehwat self-governing and independent French population. During this time the British still hated the Catholic Church, the consequence of this was that in order to join the government of Quebec, any interested applicants would have to take the Serment Du Test, which was an oath that swore your loyalty to the Anglican Church. This meant that not a lot of French citizens would be in parliament meaning that they wouldn't have much of a say on laws that governed them.
